The Story of Deborah

I came across a wonderful and inspiring story. It is the story of “Deborah” from the Bible. It is evident in her story that her leadership was honored. I can only hope that I am able to fulfill the promise of my name.

The Story of Deborah:

As the only female Judge of Israel, “Deborah” is a unique character in the Bible. Her story takes place between the years 1209 and 1169 B.C.

Deborah became Judge at a time when Israel was experiencing a spiritual and moral decline, partly due to the loss of their national leaders, Moses and Joshua. As judge, Deborah brought a feminine sensibility to a male dominated profession. Deborah's leadership style was selfless, focusing on the people rather than on herself. Her capacity to inspire change was tempered by a mother's ability to admonish. The combination of those abilities encouraged and motivated others to create a better life. Deborah’s ability to motivate, inspire, and empower was the source of her effectiveness, both as a public leader and also as a wife and mother.
